Why work in the deep planes?

A natural result cannot rely on removing or tightening skin alone.

Facial aging does not affect a single anatomical layer. The skin loses elasticity, the fat compartments redistribute, the ligaments give up part of their capacity for support, and the deep tissues descend. For that reason, a natural result cannot rely on removing or tightening skin alone.

When it is indicated, a deep-plane facelift makes it possible to mobilize and reposition certain structures of the face as a single functional unit. It can restore continuity between the cheek, the jawline and the neck with less tension on the surface.

The technique, however, does not by itself determine the quality of the result. First one has to identify what is producing the change: tissue descent, loss or redistribution of volume, skin laxity, changes in the neck, or a combination of factors.

The right procedure grows out of that diagnosis. The aim is not to create a different face, but to restore support, proportion and continuity while preserving the features that make each person recognizable.

The first step is an evaluation.
