The upper lip is part of an anatomical relationship between the nose, the teeth, the smile and the lower third of the face. That is why a lip lift is not analyzed as an isolated change to the lip, but within that proportion.
A relationship, not a measurement
The upper lip is not read on its own.
The same lip may or may not suit a face, depending on the length of the lip itself, how much the teeth show when speaking and smiling, and its relationship with the nose and chin. A lip lift works on that proportion; that is why the decision begins with the diagnosis, not with a number.
What is assessed
Proportion before measurement.
Indicating a lip lift calls for studying the whole, not a single figure:
- Length of the upper lip and of the space between the nose and the lip.
- Dental show at rest and when smiling.
- Proportions of the lower third and of the whole face.
- Shape and dynamics of the smile.
- Any history of fillers or other previous procedures.
The aim is proportion and definition, not a measurement repeated across every face.
Lip lift and filler
Volume and proportion are not the same thing.
Fillers add volume to the lip; a lip lift works on its proportion and on its relationship with the nose and the teeth. They are tools with different aims, and in many cases the best decision is not to add volume, but to correct a proportion —or not to intervene at all. Non-surgical approaches sit within structural facial rejuvenation.
